PR advocates and leaders in Spokane since 1967
The roots of the Greater Spokane Chapter of PRSA go back to 1967, when Tom Hogan of Thomas G. Hogan and Associates Inc., a public relations counseling firm, first became a member of national PRSA.
In the 1970s other PR professionals joined and became accredited through the national organization, including Ken Degerness, APR, of Degerness and Associates, and Jerry Shackette, APR, of the Spokesman Review.
These emerging leaders and fellow communications professionals decided a local chapter would tremendously benefit Spokane. After countless hours engaging the local PR community and completing the application process, a chapter was formed in 1980.
Today, the Greater Spokane Chapter serves Eastern and Central Washington, and our members work in a variety of regional industries: agencies/communications firms, healthcare, non-profit, technology, small business, government, banking, and more. Our members are engaged with us to earn and maintain their APR; to network and pursue continuing education, and for our affiliation with a reputable, national communications group.
Charter members of the Greater Spokane Chapter consisted of six women and 11 men, a remarkably strong showing of women at a time when public relations was still a male-dominated career field.
